Last week, the 2026 Edition of the Progress in Solid Oxide Cell System Workshop took place in Stuttgart and was organised and hosted by DLR.
Building upon its legacy of being previously hosted in Bruges, this event continues to focus on the challenges surrounding the operation and integration of solid oxide cells (SOCs) within advanced process systems. The workshop brought together leading experts from across Europe to share insights and discuss the latest challenges and opportunities in Solid Oxide Cell systems.
During the workshop experts to shared insights and discussed the following key topics related to SOE/SOFC Operation in Process Systems:
- Practical Experiences:
- Process system engineering
- Commissioning of SOC systems
- Steady-state and transient operation of large reactors and systems
- Integration with Upstream and Downstream Processes
- Operation and Control Strategies for Enhanced Performance
- Conceptual SOC System Design Studies and Modelling
- Addressing Degradation Challenges in System Context
In such occasion and in session seven on April 17 (Day 2), the VTT Research Scientist Werneri Huhtinen gave the presentation “Experimental Insights into SOFC Stack Performance in an Ammonia‑Based System” which contained the AMON project results and experiences from performance screening of 8-kW stack module.
Following the workshop, participants had the possibility to join a private tour of the DLR’s SOC labs (2-100 kW).
